The evaluation to determine your remaining functional vision typically takes about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes and follows a thorough, 5-step process:
1. Assessing Your Particular Needs
- We evaluate how much vision you have left
- We assess your overall visual health and the impact of disease or other health-related conditions affecting your vision
- We provide practical tips on lighting, contrast enhancement, and glare control to help improve your day-to-day vision
- We work with your current eye doctor to provide services they may not offer
2. Providing Appropriate Intervention
- We take into account any special visual demands, needs, and adjustments related to your specific vision loss
3. Exploring New Technology and Devices
We explore technology and devices specific to your impairment that can help with everyday tasks like reading, watching TV, and recognizing faces — including our full range of low vision glasses, such as bioptic glasses, Clear Image Microscopic Glasses, E-Scoop Glasses, FDTS Glasses, and field expanding glasses.
4. Counseling and Education
- We explain your treatment options, including the risks and benefits of each
- We recommend a customized rehabilitation plan — a clear path forward to help you see better
- We instruct you on how to properly use any recommended visual aids and devices
5. Referrals When Needed
In some cases, we provide appropriate referrals for services that Dr. Huggett and his team are not able to offer directly.
